Gender Norms Etiquette in Uganda

Public life in Uganda is still fairly conservative, so men and women are generally expected to dress modestly, avoid overt public affection, and use polite, indirect behavior, especially in rural areas and around elders. In many settings women may be expected to be more reserved than men, while urban Kampala is more relaxed, but travelers should still be aware that strong opinions about family roles, marriage, and sexuality can be common.
