Public life in Rwanda is relatively gender-balanced by regional standards, so travelers will see women in leadership, business, and government roles and should address men and women with the same level of respect and formality. At the same time, many households still expect men to take a protective or provider role and women to manage much of the domestic work, so avoid making jokes or assumptions that dismiss traditional family expectations.
