People usually address others formally at first, using surnames and patronymics or polite titles, and they wait for the senior or higher-status person to set the tone in meetings, meals, or negotiations. Age, professional rank, and official position still carry noticeable weight, so interrupting, contradicting too directly, or acting overly casual with elders or managers can come across as disrespectful.
