Physical Touch Etiquette in Cameroon

Physical touch is usually reserved for people who know each other well, so a light handshake is the safest greeting and more familiar contact like hugs, back pats, or touching someone’s head is best avoided unless the other person initiates it. In many communities, especially in more traditional or older settings, public displays of affection are kept discreet, and respect for personal space is stronger between unrelated men and women.
