Safety Etiquette in Peru

Use normal urban caution in Peru: keep valuables out of sight, avoid flashing phones or cash, and be especially alert in crowded buses, markets, and around tourist sites where pickpocketing is the main risk. In many places people also avoid walking alone late at night in unfamiliar neighborhoods, and in the Andes or Amazon it is wise to use local guides and follow advice about altitude, weather, and road conditions.
