Physical Touch Etiquette in Peru

Physical touch is usually warm and familiar in Peru, with handshakes, a light hug, or a cheek kiss common after an introduction, especially among women and in social settings. People generally stand fairly close when talking, but it is still best to let the other person initiate more intimate contact and to be more restrained in formal or first-time business interactions.
