Greetings Etiquette in Sri Lanka

A polite handshake is common in formal settings, but many Sri Lankans greet with a slight nod and a warm smile, and it is respectful to use both hands or the right hand when offering or receiving something. In more traditional or religious contexts, especially with elders or monks, people may use the palms-together ayubowan greeting, which means wishing long life and is a very common local gesture.
