Tipping in Portugal is modest and optional: in cafés and casual restaurants people often leave small change or round up the bill, while in nicer restaurants 5–10% is appreciated for good service. Service charges are sometimes already included, so locals usually tip only as a small gesture rather than as an expected part of the price.
