Dining Etiquette in Portugal
Meals are usually leisurely and social, so it is normal to linger at the table, wait to be seated or for the host to start, and keep conversation going rather than rushing through the meal. In restaurants, bread, olives, cheese, or other small starters may be brought automatically and charged if eaten, and in more traditional settings a late lunch and a long dinner are common, especially when sharing petiscos.
