Smoking Etiquette in Portugal

Smoking is generally restricted to designated outdoor areas and clearly marked smoking rooms, and you should not smoke in most indoor public places, restaurants, bars, or on public transport. In Portugal, enforcement is fairly normal in cities and tourist areas, so look for ashtrays or posted signs before lighting up, and expect some cafés or nightlife spots to have separate smoking sections rather than open indoor smoking.
