People in Portugal dress neatly and conservatively in everyday life, especially in cities, churches, and nicer restaurants, so shorts, beachwear, and very revealing clothes are usually reserved for the coast or casual settings. In summer, light clothing is fine because of the heat, but locals still tend to look polished rather than overly casual, and modest dress is expected for religious sites and formal occasions.
