Tipping Etiquette in North Korea

Tipping is generally not expected in North Korea and can even feel awkward or inappropriate in ordinary service settings, so travelers should not try to add a gratuity unless a guide or host clearly indicates otherwise. In state-run hotels, restaurants, and transport, service charges are usually fixed, and any extra cash or gifts are more likely to be handled discreetly through an accompanying guide than handed over openly.
