Meat is a relatively scarce and valued food in North Korea, so it is usually served in small portions and often reserved for special occasions, state-run restaurants, or guests of honor rather than everyday meals. Pork and chicken are more common than beef, and in some settings people may stretch meat dishes with vegetables, noodles, or broth to make them go further.
