Personal Space Etiquette in Iraq

People in Iraq generally stand and sit closer than many Western visitors expect, and same-gender friends or relatives may touch, hold hands, or greet with cheek kisses without it implying anything romantic. In public, keep a respectful distance with the opposite sex unless the other person initiates closer contact, and be aware that crowded family settings and hospitality visits often make personal space feel much smaller than in private Western settings.
