Alcohol Etiquette in Iraq

Alcohol is generally avoided in public in Iraq, and many people will not drink at all for religious or social reasons, so travelers should not assume it is acceptable to order or consume it openly. In more liberal areas and some hotels or private gatherings it may be available, but it is still best to be discreet and respect local sensitivities, especially during Ramadan and in conservative neighborhoods.
