Tipping Etiquette in Costa Rica

Tipping is appreciated in Costa Rica but is usually modest rather than expected everywhere: many restaurants already add a 10% service charge, and leaving a little extra for especially good service is common. In taxis, small round-ups are normal, while in hotels and for tour guides a few dollars or the local equivalent is a polite gesture rather than a strict rule.
