Clothing Etiquette in Costa Rica

Dress is generally casual and practical in Costa Rica, with lightweight clothing, sandals, and beachwear common in coastal areas, while neat casual clothes are expected in cities, nicer restaurants, and offices. For churches, government buildings, and some rural communities, it is respectful to avoid very revealing outfits and to cover up a bit more, especially outside the tourist zones.
