Drinking Water Etiquette in Costa Rica

Tap water is generally safe to drink in most of Costa Rica, and many locals use it directly at home and in restaurants without hesitation. In rural or remote areas, especially on smaller islands or in very basic lodgings, people may still prefer bottled or filtered water, but there is no strong local custom against drinking the tap water.
