Arriving a little late is often acceptable in Brazil for social gatherings, where 15 to 30 minutes of flexibility is common and being exactly on time can even feel overly formal. For business meetings and official appointments, though, punctuality matters more, so it is best to be on time or only slightly delayed, especially in larger cities and more formal settings.
