Personal space is usually smaller in Brazil than many visitors expect, so people often stand closer, touch an arm or shoulder while talking, and may greet with a kiss on the cheek or a warm hug among acquaintances. Stepping back too much can read as cold or unfriendly, though in formal settings, with strangers, or in crowded cities people still respect a bit more distance.
