Personal Space Etiquette in Thailand

Personal space is usually smaller in Thailand than many Western visitors expect, so close standing, light contact, and crowded queues are normal as long as you stay calm and polite. In everyday life people avoid overtly physical displays in public, but in busy markets, on public transport, and in family settings it is common to stand or sit quite close without it implying rudeness.
