Relationships are usually approached conservatively in Oman, so public displays of affection are best kept to a minimum and dating is often discreet, especially outside major hotels and expatriate settings. Family approval matters a great deal in serious relationships, and many Omanis prefer courtship that leads toward marriage rather than openly casual dating.
