Recycling Etiquette in Democratic Republic of the Congo

Recycling is not yet a strong everyday norm in most of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, so travelers should not expect widespread sorting bins or curbside collection and should be prepared to carry their waste until they find a proper disposal point. In larger cities and some organized compounds, people may separate bottles, metal, or plastic for resale or reuse, but informal waste picking and local reuse are more common than formal recycling systems.
