Ask before photographing people, especially in rural areas, markets, and around military or government sites, because many Congolese are wary of being photographed without permission. In cities like Kinshasa, street scenes are usually fine if you are discreet and respectful, but avoid taking pictures of checkpoints, police, soldiers, airports, bridges, and other sensitive infrastructure.
