Drinking is common in business dinners and social gatherings, and it is polite to accept a toast or at least raise your glass, often saying ganbei before drinking. Public drunkenness is frowned on, and while beer and baijiu are widely served, many people still expect you to pace yourself and show restraint, especially in formal settings.
