Public displays of affection are generally accepted in Uruguay, and couples can usually hold hands, hug, or kiss in public without drawing much attention. More intimate behavior is still best kept discreet, especially outside nightlife areas or among older people, but the overall attitude is relaxed compared with many other countries in the region.
