Meat Etiquette in Turkmenistan

Meat is central to everyday meals in Turkmenistan, with lamb, mutton, and beef commonly served in hearty dishes, while pork is generally avoided because the population is overwhelmingly Muslim. Guests are often offered generous portions of meat at family meals and celebrations, and refusing too firmly can be seen as impolite, especially when it is served with rice, flatbread, or in dishes like plov and shashlik.
