Physical touch is usually reserved for close friends and family, so keep greetings light and avoid casual hugging, back-slapping, or touching someone you do not know well. In many settings a handshake is the safest default, and in more traditional or reserved communities people may prefer a bit more personal space, especially between men and women who are not acquainted.
