Carry tissues or a small pack of toilet paper, because many public and roadside toilets in India provide water for washing but not paper, and a hand shower or bucket is often the normal setup. In homes, trains, and some hotels you may see squat toilets alongside Western-style ones, and it is polite to leave the area clean and use the water rather than expecting paper to be supplied.
