Bargaining is normal in many Indian markets, street stalls, taxi rides without meters, and with independent vendors, so it is expected to negotiate politely rather than accept the first price. Fixed-price shops, malls, and most restaurants usually do not haggle, and a friendly back-and-forth with a smile works better than being aggressive or walking away too quickly.
