Personal Space Etiquette in India

Personal space is generally smaller in India than many Western visitors expect, so crowded queues, close seating, and brief accidental contact in markets, trains, or buses are normal and usually not considered rude. In more formal settings people still avoid obvious touching, but same-sex friends may stand or sit very close, and in busy public places it is common to adjust rather than insist on a wide buffer.
