Swearing Etiquette in Haiti

Swearing is generally kept out of public conversation in Haiti, especially around elders, strangers, and in formal settings, where blunt profanity can be taken as disrespectful or needlessly aggressive. In everyday speech, people may still use strong language among close friends, but many Haitians prefer witty teasing, proverbs, or indirect phrasing instead of open cursing.
