Tipping Etiquette in Germany

Tipping is customary in Germany but modest: people usually round up the bill or add about 5–10% for good service rather than leaving a large percentage. In restaurants, cafés, taxis, and hair salons, it is common to tell the server the total amount you want to pay when handing over cash or card, and service charges are not usually treated as a separate extra.
