Smoking Etiquette in Germany

Smoking is generally allowed in designated outdoor areas and in some separate smoking rooms or beer gardens, but you should not smoke inside most restaurants, bars, public transport, or enclosed public buildings. Germans tend to be fairly strict about respecting no-smoking rules, so look for ashtrays or signs before lighting up and expect to step outside in many places.
