Public swearing is generally frowned upon in Cambodia, especially in front of elders, monks, or in formal settings, so travelers should keep language restrained and avoid loud profanity. In everyday conversation people tend to preserve harmony and face, and even when annoyed it is more common to soften criticism or use indirect phrasing than to curse openly.
