A polite greeting in Cambodia is usually a slight bow with the palms pressed together in a
sampeah, with the hands held higher for elders or people of higher status. Handshakes are becoming more common in cities, but it is still respectful to wait for the other person to initiate and to avoid touching someone’s head or pointing your feet at them.
