Swearing Etiquette in Austria

Swearing is generally kept fairly restrained in public in Austria, especially around strangers, older people, and in formal settings, where blunt profanity can come across as rude or low-class. Among friends and in casual settings it is more acceptable, but many Austrians still prefer sharper irony or dry sarcasm over loud, constant cursing.
