Austrian greetings are usually polite and fairly formal at first: use a handshake, make eye contact, and say
Grüß Gott in much of the country or
Servus in more casual settings. Among friends and family, people may greet with a light cheek kiss or a quick Servus, but it is best to wait for the other person to set the tone.
