Personal Space Etiquette in Uzbekistan

People in Uzbekistan generally stand and sit closer than many Western visitors expect, so a bit of crowding in conversation, shops, and public transport is normal rather than rude. Among friends and family, same-sex handshakes, shoulder touches, and warm greetings are common, while more reserved spacing is usually kept with elders and between unrelated men and women in formal settings.
