Public life in Uzbekistan is still fairly conservative, so travelers should dress modestly and avoid overly familiar behavior between men and women, especially in rural areas and around older people. In cities you will see more flexibility, but traditional expectations remain strong in family settings and at religious or formal gatherings, where women often cover shoulders and knees and men avoid public displays of affection.
