Swearing Etiquette in Syria

Swearing is generally kept out of public conversation in Syria, especially around elders, strangers, and in mixed company, where harsh language can be taken as a serious loss of respect. In everyday speech people may still use strong insults or religious exclamations in private or among close friends, but doing so openly can quickly escalate tension and is best avoided.
