Smoking Etiquette in Syria

Smoking is common and generally socially tolerated in Syria, especially among men, and you will often see cigarettes and water pipes in cafés, homes, and social gatherings. It is still polite to ask before smoking indoors or around elders and families, and some restaurants or public places may discourage it even if the custom is more relaxed than in many countries.
