Alcohol Etiquette in Syria

Alcohol is generally avoided in public in Syria, and many people—especially in conservative Muslim areas—do not drink at all, so travelers should not expect it to be casually offered or openly consumed. It is more likely to be available in some hotels, restaurants, and Christian neighborhoods, but even there discretion is important and public drunkenness is strongly frowned upon.
