Public displays of affection are usually kept modest in Russia, so brief hand-holding or a quick kiss is generally fine, but prolonged hugging, heavy kissing, or overtly sexual behavior in public can draw stares or disapproval. In everyday life people tend to be reserved in public spaces, especially around older generations and on public transport, while couples are typically more relaxed in parks, nightlife areas, or among close friends.
