Smoking Etiquette in Laos

Smoking is fairly common in Laos, especially among men, but you should still avoid lighting up in homes, temples, government offices, buses, and other enclosed public places unless you see locals doing so or there is a designated area. In rural settings and at social gatherings, cigarettes may be offered as a gesture of hospitality, and it is polite to accept or decline quietly rather than making a fuss.
