In Ghana, travelers are generally expected to stay alert in crowded markets, on public transport, and after dark, and to keep valuables out of sight rather than assuming the area is unsafe. Locals are usually helpful and welcoming, but petty theft and opportunistic scams can happen in busy areas, so using registered taxis or ride-hailing services and agreeing on prices before informal transport is the practical norm.
