Public LGBTQ expression is generally kept very discreet in Ghana, and travelers should not assume open displays of affection or discussion will be welcomed outside trusted private settings. Social attitudes are often conservative and shaped by religion and family expectations, and while same-sex intimacy is not the main focus of everyday interaction, open advocacy can attract strong disapproval or legal and social risk.
