Public displays of affection are usually kept modest in Cyprus, so holding hands or a quick kiss is generally fine, but prolonged hugging, heavy kissing, or overtly sexual behavior can draw uncomfortable attention in more conservative settings. This is especially true in villages, around older people, and near churches or family gatherings, where a more reserved style is expected even though younger people in cities tend to be more relaxed.
