Cyprus is fairly conservative in public, so men and women usually dress modestly and keep affectionate behavior low-key, especially in villages, churches, and family settings. In everyday life women work and socialize freely, but older generations may still expect men to take the lead in formal introductions or hospitality, while younger urban Cypriots are generally more relaxed and egalitarian.
