Shared minibuses and motorcycle taxis are the normal way to get around, and you usually agree on the fare before boarding because prices are often negotiated rather than fixed. In Bujumbura and on main intercity routes, these informal services are more common than scheduled public transit, while road conditions and fuel shortages can make trips slower and less predictable than travelers expect.
